The Challenge
EE wanted to connect film fans to the BAFTA red carpet. Not with a video wall or a message board, but by putting them there. The difficulty is that a red carpet is one of the most hostile environments in live broadcast. It is bright, it is crowded, it runs to a fixed schedule, and there is no opportunity for a second take.
The Musion Solution
A 4K Holobox positioned on the red carpet itself, with fans appearing at life size from a remote location in Bath. Presenters interviewed them directly, on camera, as part of the live coverage. The holographic figures shared the carpet with the guests rather than sitting on a screen beside them.
The Deployment
Transmission over 5G with no fixed cabling to the capture location. 4K resolution end to end. The system was rigged into an existing red carpet layout with EE brand treatment around the unit, and operated live throughout the arrivals window.
The Result
A world first. No holographic telepresence had previously been delivered in 4K over 5G at a major awards ceremony. Fans appeared alongside nominees and presenters on one of the most photographed carpets in the British film calendar.
